A current project TASIMODE is working on is Project Workforce; this project will focus on harvesting and producing edible sunflower oil. Nominated single mothers and volunteers of TASIMODE will be elected in constructing the organic Sunflower seed farm located on 20 – 25 acres.
Sunflower seeds are the gift of the beautiful sunflower which produces grayish-green or black seeds encased in tear-dropped shaped black shells. Since these seeds have a very high oil content, they are one of the main sources used to produce polyunsaturated oil in the world and creating almost 8 million jobs in Tanzania. Producing Edible sunflower oil was outlined to TASIMODE as being an educational process for the single mothers and a self sufficient way of sustaining an organisation like TASIMODE. Preparation, planting, maintaining, harvesting and packaging will be the construction path in order to establish the sunflower seed farm. Once the farm is operational and the sunflower oil is ready for sale, the produce will be sold and the funds gathered will be used to operate the factory and self fund daily wages for the single mothers. To produce the edible sunflower oil the time spam will be between 10 – 12 months, undergoing filtration and Health regulation tests.
The main objective for project workforce is to develop and disseminate awareness to the adolescence single mothers about creating their own sustainable future.
TASIMODE is a guide for these adolescent single mothers, we are not there to Spoon feed them. Producing sunflower oil will enable the mothers to learn more about environmental sustainability and how to practice essential farming methods, whilst supporting them with an hourly rate. Not only will this support them financially and enable them to buy food, water and send their children to school, it will also teach them how to be responsible with finance and to feel a sense of accomplishment.
